Bdeo: the revolution of Visual Intelligence in insurance

Every business story begins with a spark: an intuition that grows into purpose. In the case of Bdeo, that idea came about in 2017, when its founder, Julio Pernía, saw an opportunity to rethink how insurers could engage with their customers and streamline key processes. What began as an incipient project soon transformed into a company with an international vocation and a technology called to mark a before and after in the industry.

“Bdeo was born with the vision of transforming an industry that, to a large extent, continued to rely on manual, slow and expensive processes,” the founding team recalls today. The journey began with a video assessment solution and, almost from the beginning, with the conviction that Visual Intelligence would be the real lever of change. In 2019, he joined Ruth Puente, an architect with experience in digital entrepreneurship, who reinforced the company from the direction of operations and consolidated the structure for growth.

Overcoming Barriers

Innovation in insurance always involves an added challenge: to gain the trust of a sector that values, above all else, security and reliability. “Our biggest challenge has been to demonstrate that Visual Intelligence is not only reliable and secure, but that it also provides tangible benefits from its implementation,” they say from the company.

Added to this is another challenge: convincing a traditionally conservative sector. “The adoption of new technologies in this environment requires not only demonstrating the effectiveness and security of the solutions, but also building trust in their ability to live with traditional practices,” they explain. Each insurer has its own internal processes, tools and regulations, which, in the words of Bdeo, “has led us to develop highly flexible and adaptable solutions, capable of integrating without friction and ensuring a smooth transition for the teams that use it”.

A technology with its own seal

The differential value of Bdeo is based on three pillars: the modularity of its solutions, an approach that puts people at the center of everything and the connection between subscription and claims thanks to the Vehicle Lifecycle concept. “We do not seek to replace the expert's judgment, but rather to enhance it,” they stress. Technology accelerates, provides consistency and precision, but the final decision always lies with insurance teams.

To this they add a distinctive element: “Our ability to connect underwriting and claims through our Vehicle Lifecycle approach offers a unified view of the state of the vehicle throughout the entire relationship with the customer.” This approach has allowed the company to become a relevant player in the insurtech ecosystem, offering speed and consistency without losing sight of the trust required by the insurance activity.

The momentum of Santalucía Impulsa

In that journey, Santalucía Impulsa Startups became a turning point. “Our experience was very enriching. It allowed us to learn more about the vision and challenges of a leading insurance group, to contrast our value proposition with real market needs and to receive direct feedback from experts,” they highlight.

That learning had a direct impact on the company's evolution. “Since our participation in Santalucía Impulsa Startups, Bdeo has gone from being an early-stage startup to consolidating itself as an international scaleup with a presence in more than 30 countries and more than 70 clients.” The combination of mentoring, specialized training and a collaborative environment helped the startup to take the qualitative and quantitative leap that defines it today.

Looking to the future

Today, Bdeo not only operates in Europe and Latin America, but has also made the leap to Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. International growth is a priority, always accompanied by strategic alliances and product adaptations that respond to each market.

The medium-term vision is clear: “Our goal is to consolidate ourselves as world leaders in Visual Intelligence for the insurance sector, expanding our global presence and developing innovative solutions that increasingly streamline and simplify the insurance lifecycle.”

And that ambition is backed by a firm conviction: “We see Visual Intelligence as one of the technologies that will have the most impact on the evolution of the insurance sector in the coming years. It will allow for faster, more accurate and transparent processes, improving both operational efficiency and the insured's experience.”

With this roadmap, Bdeo aspires to remain a benchmark in efficiency, transparency and customer experience. To conclude this journey, the company shares a learning experience that it considers essential for those who are starting their journey: listening closely to the user, asking without fear and letting each interaction become a source of improvement. “Trying to be very close to users, asking a lot of questions and taking each program as an opportunity to refine your value proposition” is, as they explain, one of the keys that marked their evolution. After all, innovation does not mean jumping into the void, but moving forward with firm steps, learning every step of the way. La innovation is built step by step, with an eye set on the horizon, but without ever losing attention to those who make it possible for an idea to become a reality: people.
